If you guys have any cool ideas that are in line with my artwork, let's hear 'em. I like hearing about what makes people tick.

Re: New Ideas?
Tue, December 28, 2004 - 11:36 AMAfter viewing your artwork on numerous occasions, I was more interested in your fantasy work almost more then your skaters, working class, etc. The think about your genre' is that there are other artist that do something a tad bit similar. It's making your work stand apart. I felt like your fantasy stuff set yourself apart from any other erotic artist.
Your skaters and punks had a definately "drub" feel to them. The fantasy was more unique then anything else.
Your work also has a story feel to them. I can picture images leading up to one of your single images, or images that would follow. Ever do multiple images of one group? I'm not talking comic strip though. -

Re: New Ideas?
Tue, December 28, 2004 - 2:40 PMWow. That's a very interesting take on the portfolio... and you are lighting the fire under my butt to put the new stuff up by saying this. I have so much work just sitting on disk. ;) It's funny, people always have different reaction to a section or specific piece they gravitate towards.
There is more fantasy stuff on the way - definitely!
I'm now trying to develop a more of a narrative to my work, more so than there is now. Before, the work seemed so much about the moment or what was going on between the two (or more) guys and I want to get away from that. I'm working on a series (there is one in the gallery on here in this tribe) that's based on spanking. The client is great and he has a great mind so it's fun to work with his kinks and the story just pours out of that.
In "working class" the last 3 images in the gallery are a triptych and hang in the same frame. This is hanging above a repeat clients bed right now.
I want to do more pieces like this and I'm thinking about doing another based on San Diego - a car wash scene, a tattoo shop, and a taco stand or surf shop or something... still thinking that one up. :)
As always, the stuff I show is very much within my vision and aesthetic but it's good to hear that you like the fantasy stuff and want to see more of that. -

Re: New Ideas?
Wed, December 29, 2004 - 6:12 AMI definately believe that Drubs punks and skaters is unique. Never said it wasn't. I'm not up on all the current artist names who dabble in Erotic. I'm just saying that over the course of the past 10 years, in publications or shows, I've seen work that is similar. Honestly, nothing is 100% new. We take bits and pieces here and there, throw in some imagination, creativity and create something from our soul. But at some point in history, you can find comparisons. I'm sorry I don't have specific names, dates, places or publications.
I just felt that his Fantasy was such a diversion from other erotic artist, graphic artist or cartoonist that I've seen and would like to see more.
Damn, being an artist myself I haven't sat and had critiques or discussions about art since I was in graduate school. I think I almost started breaking out in a sweat when I had to defend my words. LOL -

Re: New Ideas?
Wed, December 29, 2004 - 1:22 PMThe one thing I was going to add, you've already touched upon Drub. Your images and themes are impeccable. But, I personally longed for more narrative--more interconnectivity between the images and characters. Not per se a story or theme, but history. Your concept of a triptych fits that nicely.
On your San Diego concept, perhaps a series following a couple of characters in their varying kinks and scenes--but they would keep the overall flavor and landmarks of the city?
As I get older, I find my own sexual interests changing and developing. Things I used to not think of as necessarily erotic, now are. The way fetishism and sexual taste are fluid, that fluidity would be an interesting theme in your art. -

Re: New Ideas?
Wed, December 29, 2004 - 4:38 PMI guess, something to add would be that being in San Diego - at least for me people watching is a great way to take mental snapshots for later as there are so many guys I've seen since moving here that are either straight out of drawings I've done or have been stored for later use.
I definitely would love to make the San Diego piece something, without getting too high-falutin', that definitely sets the scene and feel of the city from my eyes. Something I've always prided myself in is nothing in my art can be seen as pretentious. I pull no punches, I'm just drawing sex. I don't read very much into my work and don't think it's changing the world - I'm just conquering men's pants one boner at a time. ;)

Re: New Ideas?
Wed, December 29, 2004 - 4:31 PMIn interviews I always try to say that I'm not really doing anything new, it's just from my point of view. This thread has me going through all my old sketchbooks lying around with work I never acted on, inked in, or forgot about. I found a bunch of devils, some satyrs, robots, and sexual mutants that I just thought too cheezy at the time, but maybe it's time to revisit these?
